in the southeast of Saxony, where Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland meet, the borders lost a lot of their sharpness with the turn. Of course, the lines where one state stops and another begins continued to doubt. But in everyday life, in the encounters and movements of the people in the region, they no longer seemed to play a major role. However, in the area of tension, however, we have been experiencing a recurrence of limits - physically, politically and culturally. What do these experiences mean from structural change, global developments, mobility and the search for belonging to our understanding of hope? What do you mean for our future? 

In this issue of Streit & confidence, the ZEIT Foundation Bucerius and Holtzbrinck Berlin invite you to discuss the ambivalence of borders. The starting point for us is the documentary “Changing Sides”, (2025) by Loraine Blumenthal. He tells the story of Thomas Eichstätt, who got out of the right -wing extremist scene and is now training a group of young refugees in a football club. The documentary shows a multi -layered process of crossing the border, which challenges personal, social and political level and at the same time gives hope. Highly recommended! Of course, you are also welcome to take part in the discussion if you haven't seen the film. 

Together we want to think about the central question of this story and make it the basis of a public debate: "Can people grow beyond their limits?" Let’s debate! 

For the debate, experts from different life realities and director Loraine Blumenthal come together. Together with the audience, there will be discussion when boundaries give and when they exclude them. What does belonging mean in a region? How does a common public, people in border regions, with different biographies and stories, really arise? 

Streit & confidence is a series of events of the Zeit Bucerius Foundation and from Holtzbrinck Berlin. This edition takes place at the Lausitz Festival. The series of events offers a place for everyone who wants real arguments that are curious and willing to question their own attitude.
