About event
a musical journey through the literature of Ukraine
The world has been a different place since February 24, 2022.
In Germany, too, we are feeling the effects of the war unleashed by Russia against its neighboring country.
But what do we really know about Ukraine - apart from the daily horror reports?
Russia's war is not only directed against the country and its people, but also affects Ukrainian culture and its independent history, its existence from Russia is contested or should be eliminated.
But in Ukraine, over the centuries, an unbridled striving for freedom and democracy has emerged like in hardly any other place in the world.
Stops on this path were the free Cossack Republic of the 17th century and, in our time, the Revolution of Dignity on the Kyiv Maidan.
The Berlin actors Jan Uplegger and Mareile Metzner take you on a literary foray through the Ukraine.
The refugee singers Iryna Lazer, Iryna Razin and Nataliia Kuprynenko and the jazz pianist Yuriy Seredin provide musical inspiration for this journey.
This creates an atmospherically dense portrait of this country in the heart of Europe.
Afterwards we want to talk to the audience about the past and future of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian artists share theirs with us Escape experiences.
An event sponsored by the State Center for Civic Education.
Admission is free. We ask for donations for libereco, aid projects in Ukraine.
Libereco would be happy if you subscribe to the Libereco newsletter.
