Tarquin Manek is a gray eminence of the Australian underground scene, his tracks can be found on everyone from HTRK to Carla dal Forno to completely obscure projects and his music is released by labels like Blackest Ever Black, A Colorful Storm or Kashual Plastik. We also really have a weakness for this scene, and it's no coincidence that you could see him here three years ago together with YL Hooi, when he also performed under his solo alias Silzedrek. We had a lot of fun (comparisons like "Twin Peaks in dub" were made), and when Manek put together a trio to present his Static Cleaner Lost Reward project live, under which he also recorded one of the best albums of 2023, Breathing Under Honey, as the final item of the Low Company label, there was nothing to solve. all permeated with a psychedelic haze that doesn't come cheap. Actually, individual bunches of arrangements seem ordinary, but their interplay hardly resembles anything from this planet, which is probably the closest to other Australian (obviously related in terms of personnel) innovators CS + Kreme, even with a hard-to-define dreamy aura. The warm beach and lapping waves soothe the mood, even though the water is pink and the sky is green.
Don't miss the opportunity when Tarquin Manek is once again in Europe, in addition to a project that he is performing for the first time. Prague's Punctum will appear on the tour alongside stops such as Berlin's Silent Green and London's Cafe OTO.

Ashen Foals are masters of simple structures that, upon closer inspection, begin to unravel around edges. Proclaimed baroque inspirations are evident on this year's debut Splendour (released by the Xion label), as well as contact surfaces with dream pop, but the key is the sound setting. The melodic lines pour noises, echoes, glitches from below; sonic waste creates the effect of both synthetic ASMR and ADHD shoegaze. Eliška Lubojatzká exaggerates in catchy melodies and swallows accents, while at the same time using contemporary tools such as autotune very purposefully. Lubojatzká rather uncovers worlds than composes pop songs, see ambiguous emotions from sadness to euphoria and a dominating feeling of sublime alienation, but the songwriting and sound design levels are ultimately inseparable and it is the tension between them that gives Ashen Foals its strength. Unheimlich pop.
