About event
🏙️ PROGRAM
City tour with Karin Maaß & Sabine Krusen to the graves of the baptized descendants of Moses Mendelssohn.
On the tour you will learn interesting facts about the baptized descendants of the Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn and their partners through the cemeteries of the former parishes of Trinity and Jerusalem / New Church.
In a former cemetery chapel, a permanent exhibition on the history of this large family was realized with funds from the German Class Lottery Berlin Foundation and the Evangelical Cemetery Association Berlin Stadtmitte.
With 26 biographical and 24 thematic photo-text panels, with over 300 illustrations - including numerous reproductions of previously unseen documents and portraits - it is the first presentation to the entire Mendelssohn family. The exhibition is intended to open our eyes to the biographies of bankers, artists, educators and scholars who have influenced over 150 years of German-Jewish history.
The theme of civic responsibility, which played a major role for the Mendelssohns and their network of friends, also includes generational responsibility for each other: This is another reason why it is worth visiting this exhibition on a unique, historic cemetery site.
