About event

There are musical works that were not born out of a desire for fame, but from a deep human need to compose one's way out of pain and find lost hope. Dvořák's Stabat Mater is exactly such a work. The year 2026 marks exactly 150 years since Antonín Dvořák completed the first, extraordinarily intimate version of this renowned spiritual cantata.

On Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 7:30 PM, we will present the original 1876 version of Stabat Mater for soloists, choir, and piano at the Church of St. Salvator. This version is stripped of the massive orchestral sound, allowing the fragility, vulnerability, and deep emotion that only the human voice can convey to truly stand out. The music here sounds exactly as the composer first wrote it down during his most difficult moments.

Come and listen with us to this unique rendition of the spiritual text "The sorrowful mother stood", which soothes and heals. Under the baton of conductor Jan Steyer and with the piano accompaniment of Filip Martinka, the voices of top soloists will come together:

Eliška Gattringerová (soprano)

Lucie Hilscherová (alto)

Vít Šantora (tenor)

Josef Kovačič (bass)

The monumental choral sound will be provided by the CTU Prague Choir and the Radost Praha Children's Choir, under the direction of choirmaster Jan Pirner.

Take this opportunity to pause and share a collective experience in a space perfectly suited for the spiritual depth of Dvořák's music.

Tickets will be available for purchase on-site before the concert or online at www.viaadartem.cz.
