About event
We invite you to the discussion and presentation of the book by journalist and writer Soni Gyarfašová They didn't let it break on Wednesday 27.11. from 18:00 to the Artforum bookstore on Hlavná ul.
The evening is moderated by Peter Neuwirth.
They didn't let themselves be broken - the book, which is published on the 35th anniversary of the gentle revolution, tells about the fates of former political prisoners who survived the most difficult, dark fifties and the most difficult of this era - executions of close people, long-term imprisonment or bullying the regime. They experienced 40 long years of totality. Although their life turned upside down, they did not give up. Many of them earned today's freedom. Today, their stories are an answer to all those who did not notice November 17th or who turn admiringly towards the east.
The author mapped the stories of people who were touched by the dark fifties, for 15 years. Years later, together with the Confederation of Political Prisoners, they returned to places associated with their past - behind the bars of prisons in the former Czechoslovakia or to the places where communist labor camps once stood. They also had personal friendships with many of the protagonists. The book tells not only about the hardships they once had to survive, but also about how they managed to cope with it.
Soňa Gyarfašová was born in Bratislava, studied journalism at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Comenius University and law at the Faculty of Law Faculty of the Comenius University, completed study stays in Regensburg, Germany and in Savonlinna, Finland.
