The Emerging Fields in Architecture module imparts current knowledge from new research fields in architectural and engineering disciplines, with the aim of addressing current and future design challenges in a broader social context in an interdisciplinary and fundamental way. The lectures convey knowledge about different and interdisciplinary approaches to design, current developments and results in materials and construction methods research, about planning and building under/in extreme conditions as well as about structures that change or develop due to changing parameters.
In this context, strategies for design development (from the initial idea to implementation) are questioned in interdisciplinary discourse, and the question of how the path from idea to realization can be shaped and to what extent it is possible to be systematically creative is examined to be.
< strong>Harald Gruendl is designer, design theorist and curator. He is partner at the design studio EOOS, managing director of EOOS Social Design and director and founder of the IDRV - Institute of Design Research Vienna. He is specialized in the research and application of social and sustainable design strategies.
Lotte Kristoferitsch is a trained architect working with EOOS Design since 2011 as a project manager, she operates as Managing Director for EOOS Social Design since 2021, leading the studio's WASH projects worldwide.
EOOS is a design studio that works in the fields of furniture/product design and social design. The three partners, Martin Bergmann, Gernot Bohman, and Harald Gründl, have been leading the studio since its founding in 1995.
< strong>EOOS/Social Design is a "Verified Social Enterprise" led by Lotte Kristoferitsch and Harald Gründl. The projects are in the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) sector for project partners such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Red Cross, or the Helvetas Foundation, in the Global South.
The Vienna -based industrial design studio EOOS NEXT will present its innovative approaches to designing sustainable products and solutions that address global challenges in areas such as water and sanitation. The studio will also discuss its collaboration with partners like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, highlighting how design can drive positive social and environmental change.
