Slovné spojenia: Cesta na konci jazyka

In the pilot part of the discussion series, Lucia Molnár Satinská and her guests will talk about the language barriers and stereotypes that foreign women and men of non-European origin face in Slovakia.

The discussion project Word Connections seeks answers to the questions of how language does not harm, but brings us closer together, how language stereotypes affect our mutual perception, or what barriers language can represent in everyday life for people who are not its "typical users". The guests of linguist Lucie Molnár Satinská will be representatives of various organizations that deal with the issues of minorities or vulnerable population groups, as well as representatives of various communities or social "bubbles". The aim of the discussions is to get to know the different communities that make up our society better, and to formulate specific recommendations on how to communicate about and with each other with respect.

Guests: Meena Sulaimankhail and Barbora Harmatová

Meena Sulaimankhail comes from Afghanistan and studies medicine in Slovakia. She really likes learning languages ​​and sees learning in general as a lifelong process, because together with languages, it opens up new ways of thinking and understanding the world.

Barbora Harmatová comes from Slovakia and is a trained translator and interpreter from German and Swedish. She currently works at the Mareena organization, where she manages the volunteer and community program. Although she does not specifically deal with languages ​​in her current profession, they are still her passion and she enjoys thinking and talking about them.

Lucia Molnár Satinská comes from Bratislava and is a linguist. He researches multilingualism in Slovakia and gender-inclusive use of language. The council connects different communities. He believes that open conversation is the best tool for discovery.
