About event

The 3rd edition of the Sleep Innovation Forum in the Future Health Lab will take place this year under the motto "Actions create progress".

At the last Sleep Innovation Forum in autumn In 2024, the Future Health Lab presented seven socio-political recommendations for action, which were defined together with the Austrian Society for Sleep Medicine and Sleep Research, in order to recognize the topic of sleep as an essential component of public health.

On Thursday, November 13th, between5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m o'clockthe 3rd iteration of the Sleep Innovation Forum 2025 will take place in the Future Health Lab in Vienna.

The Sleep Innovation Forum 2025 is intended to serve as a continuation of the stakeholder dialogue with political leaders/decision-makers and experts in order to develop the Recommendations for action - in the medium term - to have an effect.

According to a study, 51 percent of the population in Austria are affected by problems falling asleep and/or staying asleep (Medical University of Vienna, 2018). Sleep disorders such as chronic insomnia or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can have various causes and lead to serious complications and reduced performance. Chronic insomnia alone causes annual costs to the Austrian economy of around 2.6 billion euros through absenteeism and reduced performance at work, which leads to a GDP loss (gross domestic product) of 0.64 percent (Hafner et al., 2023).

In line with the “Health in All Policies”approach, the idea of health as a cross-cutting issue in To think about all areas of politics and society, we invite representatives from different companies to present their good practices on the topic of sleep health. The aim is to discuss these experiences together with those involved in the public health system and to learn from them. In this way, successful initiatives from practice can be made visible and impulses can be given as to how existing solutions can be effectively used or further developed in the public system.

Prof. Dr. Siegfried Meryn, founder of the Future Health Lab, health expert, internist and chairman of the ORF Health Advisory Board, will lead the discussion.

The event will be held in collaboration with "Idorsia".
