About event
While the house at the Black Mother of God represents the form of cubist architecture, a few years later, for example, a legiobank building is created, which works with round shapes and colors instead of sharp edges. Have you ever noticed how angry facades replaced the rhythm arches after the establishment of the First Republic? On a guided walk, we will show this transformation on distinctive iconic buildings, but also the lesser known ones, which complete the form of Prague at the beginning of the 20th century.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Prague is one of the main cultural centers of Europe. The remote hangs are replaced by luxury cafes and the political compass rotates from the rigid Austro-Hungary to the west. Czech architects such as Pavel Janák, Josef Gočár, Vlastislav Hofman and Josef Chochol are already tired of the Viennese Art Nouveau and are looking for a new direction for Czech architecture. This is how architectural cubism is created, which is unprecedented elsewhere in the world. Crystalline motifs on the facades, however, quickly replace arches and semicircles, as after the First World War, a separate Republic is created and cubism must wear a national coat. The style of rondocubism is succumbed to all Prague and colorful facades appear across the city.
