Are anti-Semitists present? Reading and conversation about comedy despite crises and war with Lea Streisand

About event
War, recession, rising prices, and Brandenburg is waiting for rain. Times are hard, there is little to laugh about, but that is by no means a reason to stop.
Writer and radioeins columnist Lea Streisand comes to Hellersdorf with her latest book, the anthology “Are anti-Semitists present?”, which she co-edited? full of satires, stories and cartoons against hatred of Jews.
Because after Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, a ghost that was believed to be dead is once again haunting Europe and the rest of the world. Left and right, migration backgrounders and potatoes, Islamists and queers, neo-Nazis, professional Zonis and decolonialists join in the strange song that Adorno called the “rumor about the Jews”, the simplest answer to all questions, from Corona to climate change: the Jews are to blame.
But such discord does not go unchallenged! Thanks to a generous donation from the Elders of Zion and the Bill Gates Foundation, the sharpest and funniest of Jewish and non-Jewish writers have gathered to confront anti-Semitism new and old. Because laughter helps against hate, even if it is sometimes bitter.
Lea Streisand was born in East Berlin, studied literature and Scandinavian studies and is known for her audio column “War beautifully jewesen” on rbb’s radioeins. She writes essays for FAZ, taz and Berliner Zeitung, and her novels are published by Ullstein.
“Are anti-Semitists present?” was published by Satyr Verlag in 2024.
