About event
Shut Up & Write! (Shut up and drink!) /ENG bellow/ — a worldwide phenomenon. Whether you're sixteen or sixty, come join our writing adventure! All are welcome! You don't have to be an established writer. In fact, you don't have to be a writer at all! Join our relaxed group on a Sunday afternoon and work on whatever you want. A novel, a short story, a screenplay, a diary, a scientific article, a poem, a recipe, a blog, or perhaps just an urgent email? Whatever you think of, we'll quietly support your efforts.
You'll find us every Sunday at noon in one of the back rooms of the cafe — usually the first one. We will meet, have something good, and around 12:15 we will start a short introductory round. Then — as expected — we shut up and write! We write in two 45-minute blocks with approximately a 15-minute break in between to stretch, replenish supplies, or visit the restrooms. It's also a great opportunity to strike up a conversation! At the end we have a short summary. Sometimes we linger and get bogged down in conversation, we share news, ideas, fresh thoughts... Even so, we are usually done with everything by three at the latest. But of course you can leave anytime!
Created by San Francisco science fiction author Rennie Saunders in 2007, based on years of experience, with over 10,000 participants from over 400 cities in over 60 countries. Now also in Prague! Come try the magic of group writing. The primary language of communication is English, but you can write whatever you want in any language you see fit. No sharing, no criticism, no stress, totally free. And if English is a problem, we'll be happy to help you in Czech as well!
