About event

A Queer Tea Meditation

Sereni-Tea is a queer-centered tea meditation, offering our LGBTQIA2S+ community a moment to slow down, breathe, and root into presence. Hosted at the Q Center, this practice reminds us that stillness is not limited to silence or sitting, it can also be cultivated through mindful action. In this gathering, tea becomes an anchor for awareness, showing us how presence can extend into our everyday interactions with the world. Each sip invites us to ground more deeply.

This session will combine meditation with the mindful preparation of Camellia sinensis. Brewed gongfu style, the tea will guide participants into rhythm, stillness, and awareness, while creating space for reflection and shared experience. Rather than separating meditation from daily life, we’ll explore how simple acts, such as preparing and drinking tea, can open the door to mindfulness in motion.

This tea meditation is guided by D’Guar (they/them), a student of tea dedicated to cultivating connection, awareness, and community through shared practice. This offering is accessible through a pay-what-you-can donation model, with a suggested donation of $5–15. This is to ensure inclusivity while welcoming generosity to sustain future gatherings. What matters most is your presence and willingness to share in community care.

To help us hold a mindful and welcoming space, we ask participants to arrive with sensitivity to sensory experience by avoiding strong fragrances. This is a space of gentle awareness, where we honor our own needs as well as those of others. By showing up with openness, respect, and care for each other’s boundaries, we create a collective atmosphere where meditation, tea, and queer belonging can flourish in community.
