About event
For the first time this year, we open the introductory seminar for all who want to work with the philosophy for children (P4C). You will learn about the main principles of this unique method. These will help you involve as many pupils as possible in group work and develop their critical thinking, creative exchange of views and cooperation. It starts to work on various occasions and in various subjects in their pedagogical practice. The seminar will take place on 3 February 2025 from 9 am to 4 pm in the center of People in Need - Langhans (Vodickova 37, Prague 1).
What is the philosophy for children?
Children's philosophy (P4C) is a didactic method with which Matthew Lipman, a professor of philosophy at the University of Colombia in New York. He was worried that young people at universities would not be able to think independently. Today, philosophy for children (P4C - Philosophy for Children) is known in more than 60 countries. They can work with it primary and secondary school teachers, or even pedagogy in kindergartens. Thinking and discussion. It is therefore not a philosophy as a social science discipline, but it is a didactic method. They teach children to ask open, philosophical questions themselves over time. They then examine together through a dialogue during which other questions appear to help explore the topic more thoroughly.
What will this method bring to the pupils? Opinions, strengthens the ability to share their own ideas and build on the ideas of others. Children also learn to express disagreement with the opinion of the other, question the assumptions, analyze individual topics and consider more aspects and above all to think "differently". Physical activities that give pupils to express themselves, to create questions that awaken curiosity and interest in discussion,
☑ at the right time to retreat from the discussion so that children can formulate their opinions independently.
The seminar will be led by lecturers: Petra Skalická and Veronika Endrštová
