About event

“Schlager of our crazy times” - panel discussion & live screening “Behind the Scenes — concert recording 2023

Hofmannsthal & Karl Borromäus Saal with Naama Isabelle Fassbinder, Marc DeKos and star guest and jazz pianist Elias Meiri.

We look at the development of the cultural industry after Corona - told and discussed as examples using Brecht's songs and the adapted Singspiel by Markos Mühlschlegel-Triantafyllou, which was created during lockdown. Kurt Weill, Bertolt Brecht and Hanns Eisler became one evening-length stage program, excerpts of which are being screened today and serve as a basis for discussion for a panel of the three artists.

A director and interview evening between discussion, film insights and musical performance - Brecht's message remains relevant: “Listen and open your mouth!” (“If sharks were people, then…”)

Join us for an evening that combines culture, criticism and music.

In the area of tension between economic upheaval and artistic renewal, the project “Schlager in our crazy times” brings together three artists who represent different approaches to Brecht and his environment.

Naama Isabelle Fassbinder (actor/chanson), Elias Meiri (pianist/improviser) and Markos Mühlschlegel-Triantafyllou (baritone/director) present music, reading and film excerpts from the Haus-Hofmannsthal-Borromäus Saal - production 2023 and discuss the role of culture in times of upheaval.

An evening about lines of flight in culture: from Berlin to the world - and back to our present. Naama Isabelle Fassbinder, Elias Meiri and Markos Mühlschlegel-Triantafyllou explore, musically and in conversation, how Brecht's songs, Weill's sound language and Eisler's political music-making practice remain effective today.

With live music, jazz improvisation, classical voice, reading and selected screening excerpts from the Lock Down performances in Haus Hofmannsthal 2024 and Borromäus In Hall 2023, an evening full of many voices will be created - personal, critical and musically rich.

Program highlights:
- Live music: Excerpts from the Weill/Brecht/Eisler repertoire
- Jazz improvisation: 'Mackie Messer' in a new suite by Elias Meiri - Reading: Brecht's 'To the Later Born' (Naama Fassbinder)
- Film Screening: Behind-the-Scenes Hofmannsthal 2023
- Panels: Art in Exile & Politics of Remembrance
