About event
We are very pleased to be able to give our year-end concert in the Schlot in Berlin-Mitte in 2025.
Round Midlife '25 - Big band through the years
The title says it all and can and may be read twice:
On the one hand, the band has put together and developed a program with bandleader Michael Rowalska that reflects the large repertoire and broad spectrum of the ensemble. On the other hand, the band also presents a chronological cross-section of the timbres and sounds of the great jazz orchestras and their eras and styles.
It goes from the Broadway hit of the 1920s to the legendary “name bands” of the big band era of the 1940s and 50s: Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, to name just a few. And of course, in addition to the swing bands, the mambo and Afro Cuban bands also get their spotlight with titles by, for example, Perez Prado or Mongo Santamaria. Of course, a little detour to the poppy, fluffy easy listening of Herb Alpert shouldn't be missed either! Finally we end up with the modern big band sound of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, Bob Mintzer's big band and the funky sound of Tower Of Power.
And Thelonious Monk's classic "Round MidNIGHT" will certainly also be there, the inspiration for the band name!
