About event

The new exhibition and permanent exhibition Plant Odyssey will take you on one of the greatest adventures in the history of life on Earth – the evolution of plants.

Come with us on a journey of more than 432 million years. From the first terrestrial species to primeval coal-forming marshes to plants that grow all around us.

EXHIBITION
🌿 You will get to know fossils, current species and the stories behind them. You will learn how plant fossils are created, why their identification is often more difficult than for animals and what paleobotanists can read from fossils.

🌿 You will also get to know the species Cooksonia barrandei — the oldest known land plant that comes from the Czech Republic. There will also be giant prehistoric floats of the genus Lepidodendron, Mesozoic plants or plants similar to those of today.

🌿 The exhibition will also include 3D printed skulls of three herbivorous dinosaurs and examples of the plants they probably ate.

🌿 You can also take a special path through the garden and look for contemporary relatives of the plants that you will see in the Exhibition Hall as fossils.

EXHIBITION
🌿 The new exhibition Plant odyssey above the Fata Morgana greenhouse presents the evolution of plants as a never-ending journey full of changes, obstacles and adaptations. The evolution of plants is not a closed chapter of the past, but continues even today — only at a much slower pace.
