More information below about Iara and hers work:
Iara da Jurema, born in São Luis de Montes Belos, Brazil, is the adopted daughter of Dona Vanda, Mae de Santo of Umbanda. Dona Vanda taught her the ways of Umbanda, a syncretic Brazilian religion that mixes African traditions, Catholicism, spiritualism and indigenous traditions. Central to umbanda is the singing of pontos, accompanied by a symphony of drums, connecting with the African homeland and the orixás – the divine energies and forces of nature.
Iara embodies presence and self-awareness, channeling the forces of nature through her powerful, a far-reaching voice. Her performances are inspiring, with a steady drum beat and syncopated clapping rhythms that resonate deeply. Her indigenous name Iara, given to her by Mae de Santo Madrinha Vanda, means "lady of the waters," "mother of the waters," and "she who enchants with beauty." Watching her perform is proof of her captivating beauty.
Iara's dream is to establish a treatment center on the outskirts of Brasília, surrounded by nature and beauty. Its vision is to create a space for cultural exchange, to welcome people from Europe and the whole world. Her goal is to preserve and share the cultural knowledge handed down by her ancestors, promote peace and mutual understanding🙏🏿💗
