About event
🇩🇪 What are we talking about - and who hears us?
Reading seminar on Habermas in the “Between the Lines” format.
🗓 December 4, Thursday, 19:00
📍 Quarteera Community Center Berlin
Every day we see news that seems to be talking about us - migrants, queer people, refugees. But they speakforus. And often in such a way that it becomes alarming.
— Why is it so difficult to be heard?
— Why do hate campaigns spread faster than facts?
— Why does TikTok set the agenda faster than parliament?
— And what to do if the space where we can speak seems increasingly smaller?
We will read and discuss Jürgen Habermas - a philosopher who explained what the public sphere is and why without it democracy simply breaks down.
Let's take a key passage about media, populism and digital publicity - in Russian translation - and discuss what is happening in Germany today:
🔸 why social networks are amplifying extreme voices, including right-wing populism;
🔸 what happens when journalism is losing its role as a “filter”;
🔸 how disinformation affects vulnerable groups - and why migrants and queer communities are the first to suffer;
🔸 is it possible to create our own spaces of public voice - and how they actually work.
This conversation is not about theory for the sake of theory.
It is about how our right to be works participants, not objects of policy.
📚 Text of the meeting:
Fragment from the book “New structural transformation of the public sphere and deliberative politics” (NLO, 2023).
The text will be in place - it is not necessary to read in advance.
📍 Everything is in Russian. You can come without preparation. This is a safe space: your experience is important and meaningful.
P.S. Join to the “Between the Lines” chat—where we share texts and continue the conversation between meetings ❤️
