About event
On November 10 and 11, history will repeat itself in DK Lúky. Be there with us!
On the night of November 3 to 4, 1994, an event occurred in the independent but young Slovak Republic that was unprecedented in democracy. A silent coalition of three political parties: the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, the Workers' Union of Slovakia and the Slovak National Party, after the parliamentary elections, jointly orchestrated the constituent meeting and subsequently the first meeting of the National Council.
These meetings lasted a total of 23 hours, during the first of them the democratic coalition in the sense of the slogan "win the elections and you can do everything" occupied the leadership of all 11 parliamentary committees and reassigned most of the opposition deputies to the committee for the environment and nature protection . Right during the second meeting, the coalition MPs dismissed 38 people from key positions and installed their own people in them. The only one from the opposition who, even after the absurd expression of no-confidence in the resignation of the government, finally stayed all night to observe the events in the hall, was the then 30-year-old member of the Democratic Left Party, Robert Fico.
This episode of Slovak socio-political culture has permanent consequences. We see and feel them even today. The invisible collective trauma of the nation represents for us a model, even an archetypal inspiration full of symptoms of the diagnosis of the political universe of post-socialist countries. Since this year is the 30th anniversary of the event, we decided to treat it theatrically. History and socio-political development in our recently 30-year-old country are basically repeating themselves, or cycles. Hence the name Re: Slovak Night of Long Knives, in which the "Re:" represents the principle of rehearsal.
