About event
AN EXCEPTIONAL CONCERT by one of the best saxophone quartets in the world.
The Viennese newspaper Zeitung called the quartet the "uncrowned kings of the saxophone" and the following criticism was published in Die Welt: "If there was an Olympic discipline for virtuoso playing on wind instruments, the Raschère Quartet would certainly win a gold medal."
Concert program: J.S. Bach, L. van Beethoven, Clara Schumann, Özkan Manav, Arvo Pärt.
Since its inception in 1969 Raschèr Saxophone Quartet regularly performs in the most important concert halls around the world: Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center (New York), Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.), Opera Bastille (Paris), Royal Festival Hall (London), Philharmonie (Cologne), Finlandia Hall (Helsinki), Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Schauspielhaus (Berlin,) Musikverein (Vienna), Tonhalle (Zurich), Parco della Musica (Rome), Dewan Filharmonik Kuala Petronas (Lumpur), National Concert Hall (Taipei), etc.
The ensemble continues the tradition established in the 1930s by the pioneer of the classical saxophone and founding member of the quartet, Sigurd Raschèr. With his virtuoso technique and musicality, he inspired many composers to dedicate their compositions to him. His quartet also inspired composers in a similar spirit, and more than 350 compositions by composers such as Aho, Auerbach, Berio, Bergman, Bialas, Dean, Denhoff, Donatoni, Firsowa, Franke, Glass, Gubaidulina, Halffter, Kagel, Kaipainen, Kancheli, Keuris, de Raaff, Maros, Moe, Nilsson, Nordgren, Nørgard, Rosenblum, Raskatov, Sandström, Stucky, Terzakis, Tüür, Wuorinen, Xenakis, Chen Yi, Zechlin and many others.
All composers were charmed by their unique quality of homogeneous tone, virtuosity and dynamics of interpretation of both new and older music. Regarding their interpretation of J. S: Bach, the eminent German musicologist Ulrich Dibelius wrote: "When Bach plays the Raschère Quartet, the music radiates an angelic aura - as if an organ and a string quartet were combined."
Many composers were fascinated by the combination of the Raschère Quartet with the orchestra, which resulted in the writing of more than 40 pieces for this combination, as well as collaborations with many world-famous orchestras led by conducting legends.
Members of the quartet:
Christine Rall
Ladislav Fančovič
Andreas van Zoelen
Oscar Trompenaars
Pianist Angelina Kydora will perform with the quartet in compositions that were written by order of virtuoso pianist and now also renowned saxophonist Ladislav Fančovič.
