About event

📚 We invite you to an author's reading and a moderated debate with Radek Wollmann, the author of the book nominated for this year's Magnesia Litera in the Debut of the Year category. His text takes us to the turn of the millennium, to a time when Czech society was dealing with post-revolutionary chaos and when tensions between different subcultures were swelling.

🗣️ Krev Kruh Černá is a raw return to the nineties, when young people tried to find their own place in a world marked by violence, uncertainty and a strong desire for freedom. In the streets of Prague at the time, neo-Nazi groups clashed with the left-wing scene, which gradually organized itself and began to defend itself, often with equally radical means. Through his autobiographical narrative, the author opens up the environment of demonstrations, squats such as Ladronka or Milada, punk concerts and everyday life, in which personal experience intertwines with political beliefs.

✊ The book is not a classic memoir, yet it draws on personal experiences and experiences collected over almost three decades in the environment of Prague subcultures. In addition to clashes with the extreme right, it also touches on the topics of solidarity, self-defense, the search for identity and the building of autonomous spaces where it is possible to live according to one's own rules, as well as the fight for the rights of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

✍️ Come listen to excerpts from the book and participate in a discussion about a time that shaped the present more than we might admit.
The interview with the author will be conducted by literary critic and journalist Jan Bělíček.

Entrance is voluntary.
