About event

Several manuscripts and manuscripts of the 14th century have been preserved in the National Library collections, which illustrate the beginnings of the Czech translation of the Bible. They are both the oldest old Czech psalters and gospels, which served primarily as aids for understanding Latin liturgy and manuscripts with parts of the oldest translation of the entire Bible from the reign of Charles IV. In the lecture we will focus on the Gospel of St. Matthew, a unique set of homily with the complete Czech wording of Matouš's Gospel, which comes from the environment associated with the establishment of the oldest wording of the Czech Bible. Although this exegetic work has been preserved in a single manuscript of the age of 14, it is one of the eleven known works that were translated from old Czech to Croatian in the Middle Ages, perhaps directly by the Croatian monks in the Slavic monastery in Prague. We will show not only the language and translation aspects of Czech biblical texts, but also their international importance.
