About event

Prague under Prague with Prague with eyes wide open.

Few people know that during a walk through the Old Town, participants often move at the level of the first floors of Romanesque houses. The Old Town suffered from frequent floods, so under Přemysl Otakar II. there is a gradual increase in the level of the city. So there is another Prague under the feet of the people of Prague, the invisible one, which the participants of the walk will talk about. They will search for and discover objects that have been erased from the surface and from maps, but are still found in the depths of the earth.

They will start the walk at Mariánské náměstí, where they will talk about the no longer existing church of Panna Marie Na Louži from the 12th century . Participants will learn why "Na Louži" and what is left of it during the walk. The next stop will be the Jesuit college Klementinum and a rare remnant of medieval fortifications, the Gate of St. Valentine from the 13th century. This gate was discovered relatively recently (in 2017) during the restoration of the Na Kocanda house. It will also stop at another non-existent building - the church of St. Valentina.

For a while, they will also move to the Jewish Town to the already demolished Nová, Cikán and Velkodvorská synagogues and talk about the mikveh ritual bath, which has been preserved underground near the Pinkas Synagogue. Nearby stood the monumental building of the church of St. A cross, of which only a smaller torso and a beautiful bolt with a depiction of a lamb have been preserved.

In order not only to talk about the underground, the walk will end with a unique visit to a wonderful Romanesque house, which today is located underground at the corner of Kaprova and Platnéřská street. This is one of the earliest recognized Romanesque houses, which has been exceptionally preserved in three floors.
