The body is not permanent.
It transforms, it remembers, it carries time.
The new dance project of choreographer and director Jiří Bartovanc Pomíjiví / The Fading Ones opens up the theme of the body, time and human vulnerability. It was created as part of his master's studies at HAMU and connects contemporary dance, visual art and musical installation.
The production responds to long-held ideas about the dancing body as a symbol of youth and perfection. Instead, he brings a view of the body as a process – a body that carries experience, memory and constant transformation.
"I am not interested in aging as a biological category. I am interested in the body as a process," says Jiří Bartovanec.
The project is created directly for the gallery space of the Kunsthalle Prague and transforms the relationship between the viewer and the performer. The viewer becomes part of a situation that develops over time. The performance is preceded by a live installation inspired by Ivan Pinkava's photographs, which smoothly transitions into the performance itself.
An international group of male and female dancers between the ages of 20 and 60 meet on stage. Together, they explore the transformation of the body and the question of how the aesthetics of movement change over the course of life.
The music was created by the composer Martin Janda, whose composition combines electronic music with a live instrumental component. During the performance, musicians Viktor Sabol and Marek Přibyl will perform.
