Climate justice - How do we create ecologically and socially just World?

The climate crisis is not just an ecological problem, but also one of the greatest social challenges of our time. While extreme weather events, rising sea levels and resource scarcity threaten the global community, those who have contributed the least to global warming are hit hardest by its consequences. Poverty, a lack of access to education and health, as well as the continued colonial power relations further increase these inequalities.

According to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the concept of climate justice aims to distribute the burdens and opportunities of climate change fairly both geographically and between generations. To do this, the main polluters in particular would have to significantly reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and change the political course in order to support vulnerable population groups in adapting to the consequences of climate change and to deal with climate-related damage worldwide. 

As part of our Poliskoch! events, we as the “Climate and Energy” program area would like to examine in exchange with experts how the concept of climate justice is understood, pursued and implemented in Germany and worldwide. The focus is on the following questions:

• How can a world be created in which ecological responsibility and social justice are compatible?
• Which voices are heard and which are often ignored?
• What changes are necessary in political, economic and social structures in order to achieve just change make it possible?

As always, we are preparing something vegan for the event.

Join us for an engaging exchange of views where we will illuminate and discuss the lessons learned from civil societies across Europe in the fight against the rise of autocratic structures and human rights violations.
