About event

The young violist Bella Adamova profiles herself as a personality at the border of genres, as a performer with growing erudition in songs, in contemporary music and with an interest in unusual dramaturgy. She was born in Russia, grew up in Prague, spent her university studies and formative years abroad. Her repertoire ranges from Bellini to German concert songs and Russian romances to the work of our contemporary Bernhard Lang. As she demonstrated through the 2023 CD with songs by Pavel Haas, Gustav Mahler, Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky, Benjamin Britten and her own improvisations, she is deeply attracted to songwriting. It was in this field that the couple Alma and Gustav Mahler met most profoundly as authors. The later composer and conductor was born in a village inn in Kaliště near Humpolka in a German-speaking Jewish family that moved to Jihlava a few months later. He spent the first fifteen years of his life there, but otherwise he primarily belongs to Vienna, where he also met Alma, the daughter of an artistic family, the muse of a number of artists before their marriage, during their life together and after Mahler's untimely death. Among Alma's admirers was Alexander Zemlinsky, later the long-time conductor of the New German Theater in Prague. Although Alma had a clear musical talent, she had to give up a promising career as a music composer. Mahler wanted a mistress, not a competitor.

Program:

  • Alma Mahler: Bei dir ist es traut< /li>
  • Alma Mahler: Laue Sommernacht
  • Gustav Mahler: Ging heut morgen übers Feld
  • Alma Mahler: Ich wandle unter Blumen
  • Gustav Mahler: Wenn mein Schatz Hochzeit macht
  • Gustav Mahler: Ich hab ein glühend Messer
  • Alma Mahler: Die stille Stadt
  • Gustav Mahler: Die zwei blauen Augen
  • Alexander Zemlinsky: Symphony No. 1 in D minor
