About event

We invite you to the presentation of the new book of essays by the editor-in-chief of Aktualít Petr Bárdy To the East of Common Sense on Thursday, December 4. from 18:00 to Košice Artfor on Hlavná ul. 87
The debate is moderated by reporter Robo Hakl.

What to do when you don't get into university and the offer from the employment office literally takes your breath away? You go with a friend to a radio audition, after which his program manager informs you that you will "never really become a presenter".
When you nod incomprehensibly after being asked if you can read, he will force you to read a storybook in a box covered with egg cartons. live. And you start doing in the media without ever even thinking about it. No dream come true, just coincidence and virtue out of necessity. In short, this was the beginning of Petr Bárdy's journalistic story, which, instead of a classic prologue, will open an imaginary door to a book with the characteristic title East of common sense.

The latest book title published under the banner of Aktuality.sk is different from everything we have published so far. And not only with content, but also with graphic processing, paper and printing. Through the collection of 22 essays, you will enter the land of Dubček's rolls, recreation vouchers and bryndza, Tisova Villa with the archives of the communist secret service or pre-election, Hungarian and other stews.

Peter Bárdy in his best book is not just the Peter Bárdy you know. Author of political bestsellers about Zuzana Čaputová, Robert Fic and Igor Matovič. Chief editor of Aktuality.sk and political commentator. He is a boy from a working-class family who, although he became a journalist by accident, has been a journalist for almost three decades. And thanks to this, he experienced firsthand the power games of the "founding fathers" led by the intrepid Mufti of his time, and the moment when the greatest patriot Ján Slota got to know the Internet. When social democrat Robert Fico brought both Mečiar and Slota back into play. When Igor Matovič did not defeat the mafia state and opened the gates of the government office and the doors of the National Council to "our people". Both sad and funny. Serious and funny. Kind and (self)ironic. Personal and quite depersonalized. Peter Bárdy is not building a myth about the nation whose DNA he carries deep inside him, nor about his country, which he does not want to leave, although he considered it for a while. He layers stories about bridges from which World War II munitions are dropped in childhood and which, in adulthood, turn into pseudo-bridges between East and West that divide. But he does not stay on either side: he is neither against nor for, he is not with "our" or "your" people. He tries to build a bridge on which everyone can walk, and to find speech through authentic and in a way universal stories that transcend the boundaries of personal experience. Not a common one, simply just speech. After all, who hasn't at least drooled from a bridge or passed a red light in thought?
