Overkill + Laid to Waste + Refore

New Jersey matadors Overkill will take over the Blue Vopic on July 12, as part of a unique open air performance. Expect blistering thrash metal, Verni's pounding bass and the immortal howl of Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth. No trends, just honest destruction in the open air.

Overkill are synonymous in the metal world with steadfastness. Since 1980, when they laid the foundations of East American thrash metal, they have not let up on any of the twenty studio albums to date. While the "Big Four" experimented over the decades, Overkill, led by the core duo of Ellsworth/Verni, relentlessly honed their unique sound defined by hyperactive tempo and punk brashness. Albums like Taking Over or The Years of Decay shaped the genre, but it was the album Ironbound that breathed new life into the band in 2010 and confirmed their status as the uncrowned kings of the subgenre who refuse to age.

At the Modrá vopice venue, listeners will be treated to a set that will tap their neck spine through a cross-section of their entire discography – from raw beginnings to modern gems like Mean, Green, Killing Machine. Live, Overkill act like a well-oiled wrecking machine, dominated by the iconic "clanking" sound of D.D.'s bass guitar. Verni's and charismatic performance of "Blitz", who rules the stage with unrelenting energy.

The legendary Overkill will complement two constants of the local scene. The evening will be opened by the Wallachian hounds Refore, who started to challenge the domestic cultists as teenagers 10 years ago and with their energy reached the Wacken podium last year. After the change of drummer in March, it will be their first performance in Prague, so we can look forward to a completely new sound!

Laid to Waste will perform second on stage. Originally from Pilsen, now from Prague, the quartet stirred up the underground waters already with their debut album Counterattack from 2015. The extreme speed and high-pitched vocals of the frontman Smrťák are the hallmarks of the band even today, when they rank among the most important and popular Czech bands within the genre.
