Zen masters of improvisation / The power of silence

Sine tones sounding alternately at frequencies of 50 Hz and 18000 Hz create a ringing reflex of a steady rhythm forcing the listener to concentrate and immerse himself in the music to the maximum. Although the dynamics of musical frequencies are often extremely reduced, the sound spectrum is constantly expanding thanks to the experimental playing style of all four musicians.

The quartet was founded by Otomo Yoshihide on the occasion of a performance at the Donaueschingen Festival in 2005. In 2007 they toured Europe and in 2008 to Japan, created an installation at the Japanese media art center YCAM and in 2010 released an album as part of the SWR2 NOWJazz series.

The quartet consists of:

• Martin Brndlmayr (drums) –⁠⁠ ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠ Member of the group Radian, who brought minimalist beats
