About event
From silence to memory: how the world learned to remember Holocaust
November 9 is the anniversary of Kristallnacht.
The night when synagogues and shop windows burned on the streets of Germany, and society saw violence for the first time and remained silent. With this silence began not only a tragedy, but also a long history of how humanity learned to remember.
📅 November 9, Sunday, 16:00
📍 Quarteera Community Center Berlin
How did the memory of the Holocaust become part of our culture? Why today are we arguing about monuments, films and the “right to speak” about tragedy?
And how does memory turn into a field of struggle - between art, politics and ethics?
🔍 In the program:
— Kristallnacht as the beginning of not only destruction, but also oblivion
— Why the survivors were silent for a long time — and how their voice changed the world
— From Adorno to Schindler's List: is it possible to depict horror
— Memory as politics: Europe, Israel, the USA and contemporary debates
— A new language of memory: from memorials to post-memory and the digital age
Organized within the framework of the project “Education against anti-Semitism and queerphobia in migrant communities” with the support of the foundation EVZ.
