⬡ Lecture and discussion with Michaela Nagyidaiová
⬡ Moderated by Ana de Almeida

/ 04. 11. 2025 / 18:00 / tranzit sk / Beskydská 12, Bratislava /

🗯️ The event is part of the exhibition Defying Archives and will take place in Slovak.

⬢ Michaela Nagyidaiova's lecture Personal stories are political: Narratives across places will address the issues of home, the feeling of belonging somewhere and migration, but will also reflect on the ethical aspects of visual projects. He will also present his personal project Pominutléne vázby, created in collaboration with his grandmother, which he has been working on for more than five years.
This two-part project explores migration, memory and the changing meaning of home across generations. It follows the journey of her grandmother Lena, who fled northern Greece as a child during the Greek Civil War (1946–1949) and was resettled in the former Czechoslovakia.

The first part, Transient ties: Searching for a place, reflects the forced migration of the artist's grandmother and the formation of identity in a new environment. The second part, Back to the Roots, is devoted to Lena's return to her birthplace, accompanied by two generations of her family.

Through photos, videos and archival materials, the project connects personal and historical stories, emphasizes the fragility, resilience and complexity of home, memory and family ties.

⬢ Michaela Nagyidaiová is a Slovak visual artist working between Vienna and Bratislava. Her work explores the connection between landscape and memory and transformations in Central and Eastern Europe, with a focus on migration and roots.
