About event

Oskar is a wonderful boy. He's sitting in his hospital bed, and what he needs is a really good plan. It should indeed be an ingenious plan to survive life with all that belongs to it until old age, but manage to do it in a little less time after all. One day is like ten years - only one person can help Oskar with such magic. The dreaded strangler from Languedoc, a former wrestler, today the mysterious, wonderful, always ready grandmother Růženka... Together with Oskar, they are a team that spouts wit, humor and for him nothing is sacred, impossible, unattainable even in the most dramatic situations. They can handle everything, because they know very well that their backs are covered by a third secret partner, God himself, who has spells with time and miracles waiting, so to speak, in the job description. You just have to trust him and clearly say what you want. That's exactly what Oskar has to learn. Then life also has a certain look and style, even if a person is suddenly one hundred years old at the end of a week out of nowhere.

Erich E. Schmitt is currently one of the most acclaimed and performed European playwrights. His plays are always a bold, deep dive into the human soul in its beauty, but also its complexity. Schmitt balances perfectly on the edge of sad-ridiculous moods. But humor is always a way for him to grasp a serious topic, as in this case, when together with Oskar we go on a pilgrimage through life, where instead of long days, only important moments remain for him. This could be very sad in itself, but here Schmitt introduces the great character of Grandma Růženka, Oskar's energetic, witty, impenetrable and mysterious companion. Together they can only laugh, there is no time to cry. Both characters are a great challenge for actors who can not only handle them, but also fill them with their own theme of human understanding, courage and indomitable will to live. And it is precisely this taste, humor and energy that Pavla Tomicová can give to the fullest in the character of Grandma Růženka, because she puts a lot of understanding and heart into her character, and Josef Polášek, as Oskar, who is both a child and an aging man, changes right before our eyes and in every position he is completely convincing.

Oscar and the Pink Lady is a play about how life can be beautiful even when it is cruel to us. It is about the courage to live and the desire to laugh. Without it, it would all be impossible to survive.

Length of performance: 120 minutes including intermission
