Opera SND I E. Suchoň: Svätopluk

Ruler Svätopluk, played by bass player Jozef Benci, has a dilemma in front of him: stand up for a new Christian future or give in to the pagans, follow the legacy of Rastislav or hold on to power at all costs? Its interior is also plagued by the personal drama of the monarch, who committed serious moral offenses on the way to power.

The monumental historical opera is not only a probe into the ancient Slavic past, but also a convincing musical drama with an interesting inner world of the main characters.

The production by director Roman Polák also opens up topics that are being addressed by contemporary society. Will we stand up for freedom and a sustainable future or will we give in to those who can't see even a few steps ahead?
