The Asthenopia exhibition presents the works of Trať 42 resident Dominika Bek and the artist invited by him, Marie Holé. Its name refers to visual fatigue, which is manifested by discomfort, pressure and tension. The state of the individual depicted in their works is similarly tense: a person involved in continuous energy exchange.
In today's world, energy is becoming one of the most valuable commodities. Its trading, redistribution and consumption are directly related to the power imbalance that affects each of us. Similar to the exploited natural resources, the human psyche is increasingly reaching its limits. The idea of inexhaustibility clashes with the fact that we are all increasingly exhausted. Keeping our own inner light alive, even though it is constantly consumed, requires energy that we can hardly afford to give out, and yet we continue to live. The exhibition Asthenopia presents works by Trať 42 resident Dominik Bek together with invited artist Marie Holá. Its title refers to eye strain, a condition characterized by discomfort, pressure, and tension. Similarly strained is the state of the individual portrayed in their works: a person engaged in a continuous exchange of energy.
In today's world, energy has become one of the most valuable commodities. Its trade, distribution, and consumption are directly tied to power imbalances that affect each of us. Just as natural resources are being extracted at an accelerating pace, the human psyche is increasingly pushed to its limits. The notion of inexhaustibility collides with the reality that we are all becoming more exhausted. Keeping our inner light alive, even as it is constantly being consumed, demands energy we can scarcely afford to expend - yet this is how we continue to live.
