Workshop for dance and movement educators, therapists and anyone interested in dance and creative movement.
Our body is a complex system functioning in the constant interplay of all its structures, history and relationships with the environment. In geometry or physics, an axis is used for orientation as an imaginary straight line passing through the center of a body. In the human body, we can look at the axis both mechanically and organically.
The first axis structure, the notochord, is formed already in the third week of embryonic development. It serves as a reference point for the forming organs, and along with it, other longitudinal tubes of the digestive and nervous systems are formed. Longitudinal structures of the body from the head to the pelvis gradually emerge from these early forms.
In common perception, we often associate the axis only with the spine, on which we also place many demands and complaints. We try to "hold" it as straight as possible, but this does not benefit its natural functioning. On the contrary, it can limit the spine's ability to respond sensitively to stimuli and adapt in movement.
Come and explore the body axis not only as an anatomical fact, but as a living, perceptible support for movement and being in it.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Anna Sedlačková has been active on the Slovak dance scene for more than 30 years as a dancer, choreographer and teacher. She has long devoted herself to contemporary approaches to movement, improvisation and body functionality in dance.
She is a certified Body-Mind Centering® Teacher – the first holder of this title in Slovakia – and at the same time a BMC Practitioner®, Somatic Movement Educator and Infant Developmental Movement Educator.
Since 1997, she has been teaching modern dance at the Department of Dance Creation of VŠMU, where she defended her dissertation on developmental movement formulas in the BMC® system. She has worked as a visiting teacher in the USA, France, the Czech Republic and other countries.
In addition to her teaching work, she has created dozens of author's projects and is active in the AS Projekt and Neskóry zber groups. She holds a prestigious Fulbright scholarship (Hampshire College, USA).
She is also dedicated to the application of BMC® in educational work with children, including children with special needs. She is the co-founder of the civil association Babyfit, which since 2004 has been developing education in the field of developmental movement of infants and young children.
