At the beginning of December, we will welcome the historian Radoslav Ragač, who will give a lecture on the legacy of the Slovak National Uprising. The event is created in cooperation with the Institute of the Memory of the Nation, which recently donated several historical publications from its publishing activities to our Contemporary Literature Reading Room.
Historian Radoslav Ragač will focus in his lecture on the deformations and reinterpretations of the meaning of the Slovak National Uprising in different periods - in the communist, exiled population, as well as in the post-November Slovak nationalist and extremist environment up to the present day. At the same time, the lecture is a continuation of the effort to freely and scientifically investigate the SNP and pluralistically convey its important historical legacy to future generations. Using concrete examples and events, historian Radoslav Ragač will describe the individual layers of communist manipulations. For example, an exclusively communist and partisan uprising without Generals Goliano and Viest, an uprising without armored trains, without Jews, without Gustáv Husák et al., a reformist view from 1968, a normalization uprising led by G. Husák, etc.
Radoslav Ragač is a graduate of the archival-history department at the Comenius University Faculty of Arts (1998). PhD degree, year 2007. After his studies, he worked in archives for many years, most recently director of the Slovak National Archives (2008-2016). Then general director of the cultural heritage section of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic (2016-2023). Currently, the director of the Research Center for the period of non-freedom of the Institute of the Memory of the Nation. Active in publishing and teaching, expert in the field of cultural heritage, author and co-author of numerous exhibition projects at home and abroad. President of ICOMOS Slovakia, chairman of the Slovak Genealogical-Heraldic Society.
