About event
What was the operation of the Gallery of the Society of Patriotic Friends of Art, the predecessor of the National Gallery in Prague, when it was located in the Šternber Palace, between 1814 and 1871? Which works of art were exhibited here? Where and why did the Picture Gallery move, and what changed after 1947, when the art of the old masters returned to the Šternber Palace under the banner of the emerging National Gallery in Prague? Guided tour with Collections of old art curator Martina Jandlová Sošková in the exhibition Old Masters II in the Šternberský palác.
The guided tour takes place as part of the series Curators' eyes on the occasion of the 230th anniversary of the founding of the NGP and brings the perspective of those who work with art collections on a daily basis, care for them and in detail they are investigating. In each meeting, the curator focuses on a selected part of the exhibition, shares the topics of his research, key questions and draws attention to details that normally remain hidden. The interpretation combines expert insight with an accessible form and invites an open dialogue.
