About event
A lecture and guided tour in the exhibition Art of Asia across space and time with ethnologist and collector Jan Petránek will present a set of terracotta sculptures of horses from the region of the western Indian state of Gujarat. These are votive offerings created on a potter's wheel or modeled by hand, which members of local tribal communities to this day place around their villages in the belief in the afterlife of ancestors and the protective power of deified heroes. The lecture will be given by Kristýna Rendlová, curator of the Asian Art Collection.
The cycle Curators' eyes brings the perspective of those who work with art collections on a daily basis, take care of them and examine them in detail. In each meeting, the curator focuses on a selected part of the exhibition, shares the topics of his research, key questions and draws attention to details that normally remain hidden. The interpretation combines expert insight with an accessible form and invites an open dialogue.
