Event by: Efektivní altruismus Česko, Aleš Ziegler
Location: Scout Institute, Staroměstské náměstí 1, Praha 1
About event
In 2023, the European Commission commissioned a report from Mario Draghi, ex-governor of the European Central Bank and ex-prime minister of Italy, on how the European Union could strengthen its competitiveness.
The report, which states and documents the EU's lagging behind the USA, was favorably received by the European Commission and is now used as a basis for the preparation of a whole series of new EU regulations.
At the meeting, we will learn about the "diagnosis" of the EU's problems according to the report and what Draghi recommends as a "treatment". We will think about what are the unspoken assumptions and weak points in the report.
Next, we will try to place the report in the context of global events, especially changes in economic policy in China and in the USA, where Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson came up with a paradoxically similar criticism of the American economic model in the book Abundance (Abundance) in 2025.
If we have time left, we will also look at how the recommendations in to implement the report.
It is absolutely not necessary to read the Draghi report or other sources to participate, but we have attached a few links for your interest.
