About event

Commented walk through Prague's largest Jewish cemetery.

It was founded at the end of the 19th century and still serves its purpose today. We can find about 27,000 gravestones on it, including works by well-known sculptors and architects. The writers Franz Kafka, Ota Pavel and Arnošt Lustig, the tragically deceased poet Jiří Orten and also members of the important business families Petschk, Waldes and Bondy are buried here. We will not only talk about their fates but also about Jewish burial customs.

Practical information:

  • Meeting point: at the entrance to the New Jewish Cemetery, Izraelská 1, at the Želivského metro station
  • Duration of the walk: 1.5–2 hours
  • There is no filming or recording of the guide during the interpretation allowed.
  • Men can visit the cemetery only with their heads covered. It is possible to use your own headgear (recommended) or you can borrow a so-called kip at the cemetery.
