About event
Lecture Mgr. Darii Murziny, prepared on the occasion of the 190th anniversary of the birth of Vojtěch Lanna the Younger, will present the new results of research devoted to a complete catalog of antique objects from his former collection.
Lanna, a prominent businessman and collector of the second half of the 19th century, collected a large collection of antique art that was dispersed in the early 20th century through auctions, among others through Rudolph Lepke's Kunst-Auctions-Haus, and today is located in museums and private collections in Europe and America.
The lecture will show how this now non-existent collection can be recaptured through a comprehensive catalog that connects auction records, museum inventories, archival sources and visual documentation. Using selected examples from the fields of ceramics, sculpture, glass, glyptics, numismatics and jewelry, the procedure for working with fragmentary preserved material and the possibilities offered by the interdisciplinary connection of art history, archeology and museology will be presented. At the same time, the lecture will open up the question of the significance of the comprehensive catalog as a tool for the preservation and further interpretation of scattered historical collections in contemporary museum practice.
Mgr. Daria Murzina is an art historian and PhD candidate in the field of Christian art history at the Catholic Theological Faculty of Charles University. In his research, he specializes in ancient art, the history of collecting and the issue of provenance, with a special emphasis on the reconstruction of dispersed historical collections. Her dissertation Ancient objects from the collections of Vojtěch Lanna the Younger: reconstruction and analysis of a scattered collection with a focus on ceramics, sculpture and glass develops an interdisciplinary approach linking art history, archaeology, museology and digital humanities. He presents his results at professional conferences and publishes in the field of cultural history.
