About event
Nordische Stimmen Grenzenlos - joint composition concert by Finnish composers Sanna Ahvenjärvi and Tapio Lappalainen on Thursday 18.12.2025 at 20:00 at Passionskirche, Berlin (Marheinekeplatz 1, 10961 Berlin)
Nordische Stimmen grenzenlos - joint composition concert by Sanna Ahvenjärvi and Tapio Lappalainen in Berlin December 18, 2025 is part of the 80th anniversary concert series of Finnish Composers and is the first event of Oulu's Cultural Capital Year ECOC2026. The concert starts a series of three composition concerts by Ahvenjärvi and Lappalainen, which are part of the official program of the Capital of Culture Year. In addition to the Berlin concert, composition concerts will be organized in October 2026 in Haapajärvi and Oulu.
The concerts feature joint compositions by Teosto award-winning composers as well as their own productions. Ahvenjärvi and Lappalainen have tried to find space in their joint works for the things they both consider important in their own aesthetics. Åhvenjärvi's own works have been characterized by emotional cleansing, comfort and almost therapeutic. Throughout his career as a composer, Lappalainen has also worked as a music technologist in various areas of music technology. Lappalainen uses live electronics very innovatively in his compositions. The concert will also feature the premiere of the new version of the Christmas carol "Joulu saapuu taas".
The performers at the Berlin concert are specialists in contemporary music, Swedish-born soprano Lisa Fornhammar and Greek-born pianist Ermis Theodorakis and music technologist Tapio Lappalainen, who live in Leipzig, Germany. Duo Lappalainen will also perform at the concert, played by violist Emilia Lappalainen and percussionist Joonatan Lappalainen, who study at the Sibellius Academy of the Arts University and the Oulu Conservatory.
