Nordbahnviertel: Bahnhof, Biotop, Brücken statt Barrieren

From the train station area to the residential area - 10,000 apartments and a wild biotope characterize Vienna's new district.

The Nordbahnhof was the first and largest train station in the Habsburg Empire. The relocation of the railway functions was followed by the plan to build an innovative district with 10,000 apartments - construction has been going on here in several phases since 1990. The decision in 2014 to make the biotope that had emerged over the decades the center set a strong tone for the final phase of development. Based on the history of the place, some of the most interesting projects are presented and the ideas behind them are discussed.
