Nicht zu überhören! Der Aulos im antiken Athen
Not to be missed! The Aulos in ancient Athens
Event by: Musikinstrumenten-Museum Berlin
Location: Museum of Musical Instruments, Ben-Gurion-Straße, Berlin - Mitte
About event
The aulos, a two-pipe wind instrument, is the most commonly depicted among ancient musical instruments. It could obviously be played by many people on very different occasions.
As part of the lecture, musician and musicologist Olga Sutkowska will explain the construction of the aulo, including the mechanisms used, and will recreate its sound on a replica of an antique instrument kept in the Louvre in Paris.
Agnes Schwarzmaier, research assistant at the antiquities collection of the Berlin State Museums, uses pictures and architectural remains of some buildings to show the use of the aulos in Athens from the 6th to 4th centuries BC.
