About event
The documentary portrait of the exceptional musician David Stypka offers an intimate look at the inspiring personality of the artist who left prematurely.
The creative flight of the talented artist was ended by a fatal illness at the age of 41, only shortly after his popularity began to fully develop. The film reveals the personal journey of an introverted boy from a small village near Frýdek-Místek, who, despite his doubts and fear of Prague, managed to work his way up among the most respected Czech musicians. It maps David's life journey from his childhood spent in the Beskydy Mountains, through his journalistic and musical career, to a difficult illness, when he radically re-evaluated his relationship with life, and the legacy he left behind. His statement is not only about music, but also about courage, doubt, love for family, life's struggles and finding hope even in the most difficult moments. The narrative is structured as a mosaic of interviews with David's family, friends, collaborators and musical colleagues, such as Ewa Farna, Mirai Navrátil, Kateřina Marie Tichá, Jindra Polák and others. The documentary also brings unique archival materials, private photos and videos, and last but not least, excerpts from David's songs and poems set in the context of his life events and locations associated with his privacy and work.
