He played in the New York club Blue Note. He also worked in Dave Holland's quintet, with whom he recorded two records, and became a close associate of Saxophonist Chris Potter. Smith's discography is full of important names not only from the jazz area - he collaborated with stars such as Patricia Barber, Randy Brecker, Paul Simon or Jose James, and even signed as co -author and co -producer of Michael Jackson's song "Heaven Can Wait" Smith reflects both genre and stylish openness, and his first work as a bandleader immediately met with enthusiastic admission of criticism. His solo albums Kinfolk: Postcards from Everywhere (2017) and Kinfolk 2: See The Birds (2021) won two Grammy Nominations. The criticism appreciated, among other things, the intertwining of jazz with the influences of contemporary soul and hip-hop, which led to frequent comparison with Robert Glasper, which we have already welcomed at Prague Sounds. Nate Smith has gained cult status among music audiences and musicians and his festival concert offers the opportunity to experience this exceptional player close. Downbeat
