Thematic excursion for the public

Go on a unique night excursion to the premises of the Hrdliček Museum of Man and get a glimpse into one of the most important topics of human existence – death and burial. Together we will travel across the centuries: from the first evidence of burial rituals among Neanderthals, through the famous triple grave from Dolní Věstony, to the fascinating burial practices of ancient Egypt, including mummification. We will also touch on the phenomenon of death masks and changes in the relationship between the living and the dead. There will also be a topic of cremation burials and the specific development of cremations in the Czech lands.

The excursion connects scientific knowledge with authentic exhibits that we normally pass by without a deeper thought. We offer a calm, sensitive and at the same time stimulating view of death as an integral part of human culture. Come and experience Museum Night in a different way – as a silent encounter with the past that can stay with you long after.

Entrance fee is voluntary.

Reservation required at hmc@natur.cuni.cz due to limited capacity.
