In the time it was common to adapt the repertoire to available resources, all the song was live, so the only way to enjoy it was when you knew you played and the instruments had.
For example, let's imagine that a Portuguese organist had contact with the trio sonatas to J. S. Bach's organ. They were written for two keyboards and a complete crankset, as Bach would wait in Germany. But in Portugal the Iberian organ, which can still be found in many churches today, had one or two limited or nonexistent keyboards and pedals. We could also imagine two musicians wanting to play a sonata of Carlos Seixas or Domenico Scarlatti and thus turn it into a continuous flute and bass sonata.
Of course, besides making adaptations, it was possible to find some original score for this formation, which would play as well. It is with this spirit that we build the concert tonight; giving priority to the songs we want to play together.
"Music in the City" is a project by Musicamera Produções developed in partnership with Rede Blx - Lisbon Libraries. With the support: Portuguese Republic, Dgartes and Antenna2
