About event
The concert from the Bridges of Contemporary Music cycle is dedicated to spiritual music for violin and organ. Organist Lukáš Dvořák, a graduate of HAMU and several study stays abroad in Denmark and the Netherlands, works as the organist of the Royal Collegiate Chapter in Vyšehrad. The organ in the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul belong to the most important romantic instruments in the territory of the Czech Republic. This year's second concert of the series therefore gives room for the creation of new compositions for instrumental casts, which rarely appear in the current work and repertoire of the last two centuries. Matouš for violin and organ, which will be performed in its world premiere. Pavel Zemek Novák is one of the most important Czech authors of sacred music, and Tereza Horáková has already premiered several of his compositions, including Trio for violin, viola and piano, Adoration for 70 percussion instruments and violin or Melodrama to Jan Skácel. The second world premiere will be Aria silenziosa by the Berlin composer Albert Breier, with whom Tereza Horáková has been collaborating for a long time.
Tereza Horáková and Lukáš Dvořák have performed together at festivals in the Czech Republic and in Germany, and in their programs they focus on lesser-known repertoire, connecting music from different periods and searching for new sound possibilities for the violin and organ. That is why compositions originally written for other instruments are also included in the program. Szymanowski's Myths, composed for violin and piano, and Arvo Pärt's Fratres, arranged for violin and organ, will be performed alongside Bach's Ciaccona in D minor and Fantasie and Fugue in G minor. Spiritual themes pervade the entire program and create a dramaturgical continuity, especially with the premiered piece by Pavel Zemek Novák.
